"This is my 3-year-old grandson Carter who wanted to be spooky ghost. Since it is always so COLD here in Minnesota, I needed to make his costume fit over his snow suit and still look good and spooky!

This spooky ghost costume was made out of an old sheet. I cut a hole at the top and then hemmed around it leaving an opening. I pulled elastic thru the hem and then sewed it together. Next, I cut out holes for each arm and zig-zagged around the holes so they would not tear or fray. I put the costume on my little guy and trimmed it to the right length. Then I took the left over sheet pieces and cut them in strips. I also used some cheese cloth and cut it into strips and last, used some tulle and cut it into strips.

Carter is wearing a white turtle neck shirt and white knit gloves with the costume. I spent $4.50 on the stocking cap; $1.00 on the white knit gloves, $4.00 on the plastic chain; $1.00 on the cheese cloth; $3.00 on the glow in the dark paint; and old sheet I already had; the tulle was left over from a baby shower. Total cost: $13.50

I searched the internet, but naturally could not find any such costume. Liking a challenge, I decided to make one. It turned out great. When he began teaching our 17-month-old-signing-son the hand signals for football calls, creating a tiny ref costume was the obvious next step. With a $3 bottle of black puffy paint from Michaels, I created the stripes, cuff, and belt and tied up some fabric scraps into a yellow flag for his waistband. I created a few more accessories, but in true toddler form, Owen refused the wear the hat or hold the whistle. Here he is demonstrating his most favorite signal: 'off sides!!'"

Then I cut out the shape of a hatching egg and glued it to the bodice. Then I cut the hat out of foam and glued a smaller feather boa for trim. They also had little chickie yellow booties, and I sewed more feathers around the tops of them. It was fun and simple."
